COVID-19 and Flooring:
COVID-19 / Coronavirus and How to Clean, Disinfect, and Protect your Home, Health, and Floors
COVID-19 has brought up many concerns from our dedicated readers and we decided to take the time to address all of the questions, worries, and uncertainties you may have during these turbulent times.

COVID-19 and Flooring: “How can I sanitize my floors.”
To begin, the most frequently asked question we have received is, “How can I sanitize my floors.”
This is actually a fantastic question for countless reasons! In case you do not know, many floors have the potential to adversely react to common chemical ingredients within many traditional disinfectants. This can cause stress for you and discoloration or other damage for your flooring, so please do not use bleach, hand sanitizer, ammonia, or any other non-recommended disinfectants for your flooring cleaning needs.
In fact, traditional disinfectants are not even required for sanitizing your floors and protecting your home. Instead, we advise that you use the cleaner mentioned in your Care and Maintenance Manual, which can be found here. It should also be recognized that many floor cleaners we recommend include ingredients designed for eliminating germs, resulting in a sanitized and safe home.
You should also know that performing routine maintenance for your hardwood, vinyl, and laminate flooring is an excellent, yet often not considered, way to keep you home protected. We recommend continuing or even increasing the regularity of your floor’s endorsed maintenance procedures which may include vacuuming, sweeping, or applying a cleaning product we trust and support. In addition, it is more important than ever to keep your shoes outside for the protection of your home as well as for your floor! Don’t track what you may have encountered outside back into your sanctuary! Relegate mud, debris, viruses, microbes, and germs trapped in your shoe’s tread to your porch, yard, or garage.

COVID-19 and Flooring: “What type of flooring is the most difficult to keep clean and sanitize?”
Hardwood flooring is also fantastic for purifying your indoor air quality and while this may not kill COVID-19 by itself, it can aid in improving your overall health. This actually leads into our second most commonly asked question, “What type of flooring is the most difficult to keep clean and sanitize?”
As we have mentioned previously, carpet is nearly impossible to keep clean and hygienic during non-pandemic times, let alone during COVID-19. You can read more about the negative impacts of carpet on your health which we have summarized here or you can also click here to go to EPA.gov and read their full findings.

COVID-19 and Flooring: “Can I catch COVID-19 from opening or interacting with my new boxes of flooring?”
A final question we have been asked with less frequency, but we feel is just as important to answer is, “Can I catch COVID-19 from opening or interacting with my new boxes of flooring?” And simply put, no. Numerous studies have found that COVID-19 cannot survive more than 24 hours on a majority of surfaces.
